A Drinking Song

This week we are studying how to Analyze poems, so i decided to chose one of the poems that we are reading in class and analyze it myself. the poem is called "A Drinking Song" by William Butler Yeats, which was published in 1916.

"A Drinking Song" describes a man who is comparing wine which goes into the mouth as love which comes in at the eye. This how we taste for first time love, and this is how we fall in love for the first time. The main image we can have of this poem is seen a man and woman drinking wine and also looking at each other. the message of the poem would be; love at first sight, but also resignation (line 6). We can say that the metaphor in this poem is the representation of wine and love as one.

I chose this image because its a good representation of how wine and love connect. here in this picture we see a couple looking each other while they drink wine.

If i would decide to send this poem to a person by email , it would be to my girlfriend, i would tell  her that just like wine when you taste it for first time, it was how i fell in love with her, the first time we saw.

  1. I like the way you explained the image of this poem. I could imagine what story this poem might have, and was able to picture it.

  2. "so I decided to chose" should say "so I chose", secondly, "we are reading in class and analyze it myself" would flow better if it said "we are reading in class to analyze for myself". Otherwise, it's informative and well written.

  3. What I like the most of all is how you connected the poem to your own experience of falling in love--it is like drinking wine, and as intoxicating.

Argh. The captcha is still on...
