Unmasking symbols: Blog 13

This new blog is about symbolic meanings of figures of speech. Today I have to analyze the meaning of (unmasked) for the characters of the novel Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare.

In the symbolic meaning of the unmasking ceremony we see that hero uncover her mask and says "And when I lived, I was your other wife, and when you loved, you were my other husband" (act 5.4.60). She shows her self as a new and virginal woman, opposite to the other Hero that was dishonor. she is being borne again, with a new life free lies; we see this when she says: Nothing certainer. One Hero died defiled, but I do live, and surely as I live, I am a maid (act 5.4.65). We see in this new transition that is very important that she has to be a virgin, which represents a new life for her and a new beginning.

We also see that Beatriz and Benedick unmask themselves, reveling that they really love each other. this happens when Benedick asks, which of the ladies is Beatriz, and she unmasks herself; saying its me. I think that the meaning of Beatriz taking off her vail shows us that she also has become a new woman, who is  willing to accept that she is in love with Benedick. The meaning that Benedick and Beatriz wrote each other sonnets, shows that they have decided to change their feelings toward one to another.
